Coming in May 2016 will be Terrance McNally's Mothers and Sons at Center Stage in Santa Cruz. This exciting new vehicle from McNally tells the story of a mother who visits the former partner of her son who died 20 years ago from AIDS. She finds her son's lover to be highly successful and in a married relationship with a man and sharing the parenting of a six-year-old boy who is the biological son of his husband. The journey of the mother from rather open antagonism to acceptance and possibly understanding, is the arc of the play. Tyne Daly (to whom the play was dedicated) played the mother in the Broadway production. The SEETheatre production will be the first on the Central Coast. There are 4 roles available: Katharine Gerard - the mother of Andre who died of AIDS, late 60's, stylish but not over-done, a woman of strong mind, not easily persuaded; Cal Porter - Andre's former lover, currently married to Will, about 49, happily settled with his life and family; Will Ogden - Cal's husband and biological father to Bud, 34, a writer, very sure of himself and his place in the world and with his family; Bud Ogden-Porter, 6 years old, inquisitive but not obnoxious, truly understands what it means to be the son of two dads. Auditions and casting to be announced.
