In a 'that's show biz' moment, Dramatist's Play Service is not releasing the rights to 'Freud's Last Session' to non-professional groups in this area at this time. What that means is that they're holding out for a higher paying production to come along. I'll re-contact them in November. I've went through this same thing with rights to 'A Number'. The royalty companies try to secure the most lucrative production for their clients (of course) and they can make more from a professional production than from a non-professional production. That being said, I think my chances of securing rights are pretty good because San Jose Rep has already done the show and there are not that many local professional groups who would be interested in the show at this point -- most of them will have set their 2014 seasons already. It's a bit nerve racking, but I'll just have to wait for right to become available. I do have a fall-back position, so I'm not too worried!
Brian will use this blog to express thoughts on theater in general and on aspects of his own theatrical company.
